Sparty-
This is a hot potato question if I ever saw one. You obviously are well versed on the NCAA rules that are understated in your question. That said, my focus and that of my WAC counterparts is simply focused on making the WAC as strong as possible moving forward. We are 10 deep in baseball for next season, and we will continue to monitor the situation that is unfolding nationally. We are in a very enviable position in this sport, in that, we have the luxury of having many options. One that may get vetted down the line (for a number of reasons) is the notion of divisional play.
Thanks.

Jeff,
Hope you are well. Looking for some information about how to watch the WAC baseball tournament this year. I checked the WACtv site and the only package listed was the softball tournament. Do you know if the WAC is planning on televising it or streaming it on demand?

The WAC streams all of their championships. Info will be available as the tournament gets closer.

Thanks for pinch hitting Joe! I was out of town a lot recently. I was in Santa Monica for the now publicized "By AD, For AD" meetings. Here is a SI column that captured the essence of the talks. The good news is a lot of quality folks want to make the system work better. sportsillustrated.cnn.com/college-football/news/20130422/athletic-directors-ncaa-mark-emmert/Between Final Four, Santa Monica and the WAC meetings in May and WAC baseball championships, my schedule has and will be quite busy.

Jeff,
When and where are the WAC meetings going to held? Are the ADs of the departing schools going to be there? Is there anything on the agenda that you can share with us?

RR-
Sorry, I just saw your question.
We have not received the official agenda for the spring meetings. My thoughts are that we need to discuss looking and modifying the existing WAC bylaws moving forward. That should lead to a discussion on championships operations, conference branding, television, sport sponsorships issues, etc. That is what I initially thought of so it may or may be on the agenda. We shall see.
I believe the meetings are for schools committed for 2013-14 and beyond. Hope that helps.

Another common error is to elevate the left shoulder too early through impact. do that straight away. arise from the pc, grab a club and address a ball. Take a motion picture swing and simply before the contact space elevate your left shoulder and stop at now. Notice the club face - it'll be open. The swing path is sometimes determined by poor alignment or incorrect aiming. I typically I raise individuals what they're aiming at and find out that what they assume they're aiming at, and what they're truly aiming at, are 2 various things. Golf Lessons UT

Mr. Konya,
So what's the word? How did the meetings go? Are there going to be divisions in baseball? When will the Fall and Winter schedules be released? Any word about TV for the WAC? Any word about TV for the Runners? Has the deal with Brighthouse been renewed? And where is Coach Kernan going to get all three weekend pitchers for next year? Awright, maybe the last question is better left to Coach, but how bout the others?

Whoa Slo, I may have to institute a question limit WAC had the spring meetings and they were quite good. Great rapport among staff and administrators. Impressed by Grand Canyon basketball facility. As for the meetings, some micro issues included having to figure out championship sites for 2013-14 and 2014-15, championship field sizes, officiating fees, bylaw modification recomendations, and the like. More macro level discussions included your tv question among others. A tv ad hoc committee was formed to navigate those waters as we have contractual and timing issues to abide by. There was a lot of talk on marketing/branding strategies and the viability of a possible WAC digital network at some point in the future like a perpetual ESPN 3. Baseball coaches will make a rec on any format change but right now, the schedule is similar to this past year. I hope it does not change for next year because we have already scheduled an away trip to Oklahoma in our off conference week. Of course, we are pushing for a six team, double elimination tourney. The WAC Board meetings will review all of the AD and Council recomendations per the formal process, so I cannot give any real details till those discussion/issues have been determined. We are close to releasing our schedules for fall and winter but as it happens every year, there are one or two contracts holding everything up. Our games will be somewhere. Maybe this was enough to hold you over. Maybe not. - Jeff

Hello Mr. Konya,
I tried reading through all the questions and answers that way you don't have to repeat any answers again. Here are a couple (5) of questions I have.
1. You mentioned (hypothetically) you felt if their ever was a Big West/WAC challenge the games would be quite competetive. Do you think the WAC would be able to get a challenge with the Big West or another quality conferece?
2. My next question is what can be done to gain more stability in the conference? With Idaho leaving in a year and other moving pieces around the country it seems the landscape is not quite stable?
3. You mentioned that it wouldn't be the best idea to have multiple DII schools transitioning in the same years my question is a possibility of stagering them a possibility? ex. GCU starts transition 13-2014, DII school X starts 14-2015?
4. My next question is probably a shot in the dark. What is the WAC's overall membership goals configuration wise? Does the WAC want 10 members? 12 members 2 divisions? 12 members no divisions?
5. My last question is, without naming names( you can if you want to ha ha ha) has any DII schools reached out to the WAC about the possibility of moving up?
Thank you for taking the time for answering mine and all the other WACkers questions. I think the WAC can move forward and continue to be one of the best conferences!

Ultimate Aggie- Welcome to the Board. You say "Go 'Runners and Go Aggies" at the end of your message so when NMSU (assuming that Aggie allegiance) is playing Bakersfield in the WAC Championship, what colors are you wearing? Just prepare Aggie Nation for a 'Runner invasion in the WAC. That said, at the WAC baseball championships, I met some really nice Aggie folks (parents and student-athletes) and was hoping if we didn't win the title as the #1 seed, you guys would have. I just had the occasion to meet President Carruthers. He is a very impressive individual and I know that NMSU is headed in a great direction. Leadership at the top is a key driver for success in any department or organization. Now, I will attempt to answer some of your inquiries. I think there is value added to a conference challenge because it offers another unique way to market/brand your conference. It is something that could be an intermediate term objective because both conferences would need to clear a time certain from future schedules to accommodate such a challenge. Here, we are already putting dates on our 2015-16 playing season. But from possible television, conference unity, general interest, I love the concept. The respective Commissioners would need to carry the water to make the specifics work. Stability is in the eye of the beholder. Since the time the WAC added UMKC, there have been 19 institutional conference moves and that doesn't even count the America Athletic/new Big East split. The WAC is now in a place to be very strategic and I know that 10 has been a desired number identified previously. Some may disagree but for me personally, I like 10 committed institutions for the WAC because it gives a true double round robin in the basketballs but provides for a possible strategic/weighted scheduling in other sports that could provide some economic/travel savings. If we grow the conference initially and immediately, I would prefer existing D1 institutions. 8 is not a bad number though either from a revenue distribution perspective. The WAC has a chance to change the paradigm with its major markets, ease of travel, innovative administrators, a focused re-branding, and a sound strategic plan. Unless the NCAA D2 to D1 rules change, it is a logistical challenge to have multiple institutions in the transition within the conference at any one time though the Atlantic Sun, as an example, has been extremely adept at activating multiple D2 institutions into its membership historically. I assume if D2 institutions fit within the new vision, and the specifics of the WAC's strategic plan, those same institutions would be properly vetted and the decisions made accordingly. Again, welcome to the conversation, and don’t sleep on the basketball ‘Runners next year. There are a lot of high hopes for that Bakersfield team in particular with so many individuals from last year having red-shirted (choice, medical or transfer rules) including 3 or 4 possible starters as well as our 6th and 7th man. - Jeff

Mr. Konya First I would like to say Welcome to the WAC officially! Now for official business on the WAC vine from vine.com it states "Who's going to join our walls next #WACwlcomes" Is this a teaser for maybe a possible invite? Don't worry what is typed on this board stays on this board. vine.co/v/haYZarrQmr9

Ultimate Aggie-
Sorry for my tardiness. I had responded when I was in Costa Rica but I guess it never went through. So this is way late as a response time. Glad it was not a EMS situation.
That said, I think the statement was more to the effect of which current athletes are going to have performances in the next year to be worthy of wall placement. That would be my initial take.
However, realignment issues are always omnipresent as you know and I can tell you firsthand it is part of a conference strategic plan moving forward to make sure it is top of mind for us all.
Hope that helps.

Mr. Konya, There is a rumor that the Big West is having their basketball media day at the Marriot in Bakersfield this wednesday. And a further rumor that CSUB will be joining the Big West. Am I correct in assuming that you will not comment on that? members4.boardhost.com/49erSports/msg/1382106683.html

Poly-
I don't know if the Media Day rumor is viable or not. Would the Big West want to have that level of exposure in the 9th biggest California city and 57th largest in the country, you would have to ask them. . .
Regarding CSUB, at present, we are content with our first year in the WAC.

Mr. Konya,
First off thank you for taking the time to answer all of our questions, second big ups for CSUB kicking butt and taking names in not only MBB but in all the sports. You guys have been a great add! Now to my question, Has the WAC had any conversations from schools that might want to join the WAC? Also now that the WAC is a little more stable would the WAC look at a few more D2 move ups? The reason I ask about the D2 move ups is because it seems that it would help if we could land another Cali school. Last question, If you had to pick what school was the next school to join the WAC where would you want this school to be from and what type of school would you want? ex. would you want another school from the mid west area that might be D1 already? Or a west coast school that is D2 but has potential? Big market? Great academics? Again thank you for your time. Hope you have a great holiday season

Ultimate-
First off, looking forward to WAC basketball conference season and playing your Aggies of NMSU. But there are a lot of teams out there with great potential in the WAC, so it should be fun. Congrats to your volleyball team who defeated the 'Runners in the VB Championship last week. Wish them well in the NCAA's.
With respect to conference membership, it has to be sensible. Grand Canyon is in the first year of transition to D1. Hence, any new D2 coming in would require some similar scheduling strategies from the Conference office and some creativity.
As far as location, any new institution would need to fall within our current footprint in my opinion, and add to our core mix of fanstastic cities and destinations, and ease of travel. Obviously a current D1 of similar institutional philosophies and aspirations would be preferred but the number 10 has been publically mentioned previosuly as a desired short term goal for the conference.
Hope that helps.
Jeff

I don't expect an answer to this necessarily, but WIU and Omaha make the most sense to me. If I were Jeff Hurd I'd be blowing up their phones every day. The Summit seems really vulnerable given their baseball situation.
